Our founder’s story
Built from faith, service, and lived experience.
Joshua’s House was founded by Joshua Curry, who serves as President and Founder. His commitment to service began with the example of his grandmother, whose Catholic faith was expressed through decades of practical care—including food-pantry service, St. Vincent de Paul, and Meals on Wheels. Raised and confirmed Catholic, Joshua made a personal covenant with God at age eleven that continues to guide this mission.
For three years, Joshua had daily contact with people experiencing homelessness near The Beacon in downtown Houston. He later experienced housing instability himself, including nights spent sleeping in his vehicle. Those experiences deepened his understanding that people need more than temporary relief: they deserve dignity, consistent care, encouragement, and a real path forward.
Joshua’s House brings that conviction into action through homeless outreach, food and water distribution, hygiene and clothing support, cancer support, education, music programs, faith-centered encouragement, and connections to practical resources. The goal is human restoration—meeting immediate needs while helping people recover hope and move forward.

Why Yeshua?
Joshua, Yeshua, and Jesus are connected forms of the same ancient Hebrew name. Joshua is the familiar English form of Yehoshua, while Yeshua is its shortened Hebrew and Aramaic form. The name came into English as Jesus through Greek and Latin, and it means ‘Yahweh is salvation’ or ‘the Lord saves.’ Messiah is not the literal meaning of the name; it is a title meaning ‘Anointed One.’ As Christians, we believe Yeshua—Jesus—is the promised Messiah. This connection is reflected in our name, Joshua’s House, and our website address, homeofyeshua.org.
